A Sightseeing Loop Through the City
One of Uppsala’s greatest advantages for visitors is that nearly all of its major attractions are within walking distance of the city centre. This means you can tick them all off—at least from the outside—during your run through Uppsala!
We recommend starting your jog at S:t Eriks Torg. From here, you can marvel at the towering Uppsala Cathedral and catch a glimpse of the Market Hall and Uppland Museum, both beautifully situated along the Fyris River. Then, make your way up Akademigatan, and on your right, you’ll spot one of Uppsala’s oldest preserved buildings, Gustavianum—easy to recognize by its striking anatomical theatre on the roof.
Continue along Biskopsgatan toward the University Main Building, constructed in 1887 and ever since a central hub of Uppsala’s academic life. If possible, step inside to admire the grand entrance hall and magnificent auditorium. Behind the University Building runs Övre Slottsgatan, also known simply as “Övre Slotts,” which winds through the picturesque old-town quarters.
Soon you’ll reach the charming Vasaparken, home to the eye-catching Vasahuset, painted entirely in blue. At the heart of the park you’ll also find Biotopia, an interactive museum that inspires children and young people to explore the wonders of science. Continue your run past the Old Cemetery until you reach Engelska Parken (The Humanities Centre) and Carolina Rediviva—two more landmarks at the core of Uppsala’s university life.
Pass the delightful Pelle Svanslös playground and step inside the walls of the Botanical Garden. Take in the vast baroque garden and the two-hundred-year-old orangery! But the highlight is yet to come: perched on the hill above is Uppsala Castle, the crowning stop of your route. Climb the stairs up to the castle, then finish your run in the lush City Garden (Stadsträdgården) nearby, before making your way back to the cathedral.
