1. Last Chance to See Queens
Don’t miss the chance to experience the spectacular exhibition Queens about the controversial queens Catherine Jagiellon and Barbara Radziwiłł at Uppsala Castle Museum and Uppsala Art Museum! The exhibition runs throughout the summer until 23 August and highlights two Renaissance queens through unique historical artefacts, contemporary art – and an incredible collection of dresses. Catherine Jagiellon actually lived at Uppsala Castle for periods of her life, making this exhibition even more special.
2. Watch Films Under the Stars in Gränby
Outdoor cinema is a perfect activity for late summer evenings, and in August, Gränbystaden hosts movie screenings in Gränbyparken. Bring a blanket, something tasty to eat, and settle down on the grass for an open-air movie night!
3. Visit Scandinavia’s Only Reggae Festival
Uppsala Reggae Festival is Scandinavia’s largest – and only dedicated – reggae festival. People from all over the world gather here for an unforgettable festival weekend known for its amazing atmosphere and fantastic line-up of artists. The festival takes place at Fyrishov, which also features an outdoor swimming area.
4. Explore Rosendal – Uppsala’s Trendiest District
Rosendal, one of Uppsala’s newer neighbourhoods, is known for its modern architecture and trendy food scene. Here you’ll find everything from cosy cafés to innovative restaurants and boutiques. Shop stylish Scandinavian design at Kvarteret, pick up delicious delicacies from Rosendal Ost & Chark, try one of the creative themed plates at the wonderfully quirky Himlen är blå som en apelsin, or enjoy a fika at the acclaimed pastry shop Leijon. Take a stroll through the area, discover the green spaces and explore the exciting public art installations.
5. Find Hidden Treasures at a Car Boot Sale or Meet Vikings at Ulva Mill
The old mill Ulva Kvarn is always a wonderful destination, with artisan shops, cosy restaurants and cafés, as well as a swimming area.
Every Sunday until October, the popular car boot sale takes place here, where you can hunt for everything imaginable. Arrive early for the best bargains, then explore the craft village and enjoy lunch afterwards.
Between 15–16 August, the area transforms during the Historical Days at Ulva, with historical camps, Viking crafts and live demonstrations. Try activities in the Viking workshop, row a Viking boat or meet knights and horses up close
6. Experience a Unique Exhibition of Bruno Liljefors’ Works
The University Museum Gustavianum is presenting a temporary exhibition featuring one of Sweden’s most significant wildlife painters, Bruno Liljefors. In 2025, the museum received a major donation from the artist’s grandchildren, making it possible to showcase an exhibition that reflects the breadth of Liljefors’ artistry – from oil paintings and sketches to drawings and sculptures. The Bruno Liljefors exhibition runs from 13 June 2026 until 10 January 2027.
6. Paddleboard on Fyrisån
Experience Uppsala from the water by trying Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) on Fyrisån – the river that runs through Uppsala city and beyond. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced paddler, this is a fun and relaxing way to explore the city’s nature and sights. Boards can be rented at several locations in Uppsala, and Fyrisån offers a calm and scenic paddling experience.
