Stories that move you at Uppsala City Theatre
From 27 November, Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility takes to the Main Stage. Sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood navigate love, money and social expectations in a production that brings Austen’s classic into conversation with our own time. Performances continue well into February, giving January visitors the chance to experience it too.
On 27–28 November, Marklyft comes to Uppsala – a visual, poetic and physical production from Palestine exploring the human capacity to carry what seems almost unbearable. Director Bashar Murkus draws inspiration from Suleiman Mansour’s iconic painting Jamal Al Mahamel, depicting a man carrying an entire city on his back. On stage, the image comes to life as questions of resistance, vulnerability and heroism are expressed through bodies and movement. Entirely wordless, the production lets four actors and a musician tell the story – a performing arts experience that requires no shared language.
