Bandy on Historic Grounds

Bandy is a winter sport and ball sport, played by two teams wearing ice skates on a large ice surface. It is played almost exclusively in the Scandinavian countries, the Baltic countries, and Mongolia.

If you ask a Swede what comes to mind when they think of Uppsala and sports, they will undoubtedly answer “The bandy final.” For decades, the final was played at the iconic icy outdoor stadium Studenternas IP. Now, you can watch IK Sirius’ men’s team in the Elite League and the women’s team from Uppsala BOIS play their home games here.

Bandy at Studenternas is a beloved tradition and a festive occasion, including the classic “bandy breakfast.” Be sure to enjoy a hearty plate of pyttipanna at one of Uppsala’s restaurants before the game!

Top-Tier Football at the Brand-New Studenternas Stadium

Next to the bandy stadium lies the Studenternas football facility, where Uppsala’s Allsvenskan men’s football team, Sirius, has played its home matches since the early 1900s. In 2022, Uppsala also proudly welcomed IK Uppsala to the women’s Allsvenskan league! The old stadium has been transformed into a state-of-the-art event arena.

Floorball and Mondo's Home Turf in Gränby

Floorball is one of Uppsala’s most popular sports, especially among children and youth. Most floorball games are held at IFU Arena, Uppsala’s largest sports complex, which spans 30,000 square meters and houses multiple halls for floorball (and athletics). The main hall, with a capacity of 3,000 spectators, is where Swedish champions Storvreta IBK face off against local rivals IK Sirius IBK. IFU Arena is also one of the venues for the Storvreta Cup, the world’s largest floorball tournament, which attracts around 750 junior teams each year.

If you pass by the athletics hall, keep an eye on the pole vault pit—you might just catch a glimpse of world champion Armand Duplantis, who competes for Upsala IF Athletics. The arena also hosts the reoccurring Mondo Classics, a pole vault competition where the world’s best vaulters gather in a show-like atmosphere.

Next to IFU Arena is also Uppsala’s new outdoor athletics stadium, which will host the Swedish Athletics Championships in 2026.

Experience the World’s Oldest Cycling Race

Uppsala is a cycling city. During the Uppsala Bike Weekend, both amateurs and pros gather for a packed weekend of cycling events. No matter your age or level, there’s a race for everyone. Explore the scenic roads of Uppland, tackle the Uppsalatrampet with friends, challenge the terrain in the MTB race, or combine both styles during the Uppsala Classic.

Every spring, Uppsala Cycling Race Week features Skandis GP, one of Europe’s toughest city races, held around Uppsala Castle, along with the Skandisloppet—the world’s oldest cycling race, first organized in 1909!

Even the youngest cyclists have something to look forward to. During the Peter No-Tail Children’s Race, kids learn about traffic safety from the famous children’s book character at various spots around the city.

Badminton or Padel?

The badminton club Fyrisfjädern has practically dominated the Swedish Championship titles over the years. Founded in 1962, it is considered one of Sweden’s most successful sports clubs. The home hall is located next to Fyrishov arena, exhibition center, camping grounds, and adventure waterpark.

But badminton isn’t the only racket sport making waves. Padel courts have been popping up like mushrooms around Uppsala in recent years—UTK Hallen, Uppsala Padelcenter, and Uppsala Padel are among the most popular venues.
