Hammarskog Recreation Area

Just over 10 km southwest of Uppsala lies Hammarskog, a beautiful outdoor recreation area offering stunning nature and a wide range of activities. In summer, you can enjoy swimming at the lakeside beach with a jetty, rent a boat, go fishing, or explore the area’s extensive network of 25 km of marked hiking trails. The scenic estate of Hammarskog Manor invites visitors to relax and enjoy a marshmallow roast at one of the many barbecue spots scattered throughout the park.

Swimming

Hammarskogsbadet is an easily accessible bathing spot with a jetty, located by Dalbyviken Bay.

Hiking

Hammarskog features several well-marked and scenic hiking trails of varying lengths:

  • Fågelstigen: 5,6 km
  • Viltstigen: 3,7 km
  • Torpstigen: 2,9 km
  • Forstigen: 2,6km
  • Skogsstigen: 2,3 km

Winter Activities

During winter, you can go ice skating on Dalkarlskärret, Dalbyviken, and Lake Ekoln. When conditions allow, a 15 km plowed skating track connects Dalbyviken to Skarholmen. Cross-country ski trails are also prepared when there’s enough snow, and children can have fun sledding on the hill near Hammarskog Manor.

Birdwatching

Bird enthusiasts will love the rich birdlife around Dalbyviken and Dalkarlskärret, where bird towers and viewing platforms offer great observation points. From the towers, you can spot species such as mallard, tufted duck, teal, coot, bittern, and nightingale.

Café and Barbecue Areas

Hammarskog Manor Café serves light lunches and pastries in a charming setting. The area also features several barbecue sites, perfect for grilling sausages or enjoying your own picnic. The barbecue area by Dalkarlskärret is accessibility-adapted.
