1. Brilliant entertainment with Candlelight
Candlelight is the concept that has taken the world by storm. They organize concerts in spectacular settings and with thousands of candles as a backdrop. In January, concerts are held in the Mission Church and it is the songs of acclaimed groups Coldplay and Imagine Dragons that are given new life, when a string quartet interprets their greatest hits. A few weeks later, in early February, you can listen to a tribute to Queen or the best of composer Hans Zimmer in Uppsala University Auditorium.
2. Ice skating in the heart of the city
Enjoy ice skating under the open sky at Studenternas IP, located in the heart of the city within the City Garden. Bring your own skates or borrow a pair for free at Fritidsbanken. If the weather is cold enough, you can also skate on the natural ice at Svandammen, just below Uppsala’s pink castle. This winter activity is best paired with a cup of hot chocolate at one of the city’s cafes afterwards.
3. Cheer on Sirius at a Bandy Match
The ice rink Studenternas IP is also home to Uppsala’s beloved bandy team, IK Sirius. Experience the excitement of a bandy match, a favorite winter sport in Sweden, and join the passionate fans in cheering for the home team. Be sure to dress warm for this winter activity!
4. Discover Uppland art at Uppsala Art Museum
Uppsala Art Museum, located in Uppsala Castle, offers an engaging collection of both modern and historical art – and free admission. Until 11 January, you can visit “Uppländsk salong”, featuring works by 17 different artists with ties to the local Uppsala County. It’s a fun way to explore many different artistic techniques and expressions within a single exhibition.
