Preserved accounts from Salsta Castle offer a fascinating glimpse into life on the large estate during Eva Horn’s time in the 18th century. The exhibition brings the people behind the estate to life, revealing the servants, their duties and the conditions that shaped their everyday work. The records also contain a remarkable detail: on Christmas Eve 1737, the gardener arranged three Christmas trees at Salsta – four years earlier than what was previously considered the oldest known evidence of Christmas trees in Sweden. The exhibition offers both an intimate look at life at Salsta and an intriguing piece of Swedish Christmas history.
