Discovering Uppsala’s mouse houses is a playful stroll through the city – an activity just as enjoyable for families with children as for curious adults. Peek into small display cases where imaginative scenes from the mice’s everyday lives unfold – filled with humour, warmth and remarkable attention to detail. You’ll spot tiny handbags, pastries, rafts and secret clues. The longer you look, the more you’ll discover.

Find the Mouse Houses
Along Uppsala’s main shopping street, at Svartbäcksgatan 1B, you’ll find three different mouse houses. Beneath the Grandpa store window is Mus-sala Station. Take a look inside the bustling little railway station and try to figure out where all the mice are heading. Just a few metres away, next to the entrance of the jewellery shop Edblad, you’ll find Mus-sala’s annual River Rafting – a playful nod to Uppsala’s traditional Walpurgis celebrations, when students float down the Fyris River on their homemade rafts. The Cheese Mystery in Mus-sala is like a miniature detective story, packed with clever details and clues to uncover.
At Smedsgränd 2, just around the corner from the classic Güntherska patisserie, you’ll discover the Mouse Bakery. You can almost smell the freshly baked bread through the glass, and the shelves are filled with tiny loaves and pastries. Press the button and you’ll even hear the mice sing a song!
Inside Uppsala Cathedral (address: Domkyrkoplan), look inside the red cabinet in the children’s area – to the left and roughly halfway down the church from the entrance – to spot even more adorable mice. In a miniature version of the grand cathedral, the church mice are in the middle of a wedding, while others prepare for a christening – and the mouse choir practises their harmonies.
