When the sun is shining, few things beat a refreshing dip at one of Uppsala’s many bathing spots. The city and its surroundings are full of lakes, small coves, and green areas by the water where you can enjoy sun, swimming, and play. Here, sandy beaches and grassy lawns blend with rocky shores and jetties stretching out over sparkling water.

Outdoor swimming

Across the municipality, you’ll find summer paradises for all ages – some with floating docks and pedal boats for fun on the water. Many are surrounded by large grassy areas perfect for activities like volleyball and rounders, as well as playgrounds, kiosks, and cafés. At some of the outdoor swimming areas, you can also rent a rowboat, canoe, or kayak. And if you’re looking for something smaller and more peaceful, there are plenty of hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

Fjällnorabadet sits by Lake Trehörningen in Fjällnora and is a large, family-friendly swimming area with a sandy beach, grassy lawns, and plenty of space for swimming and play. You can also camp, fish, and rent pedal boats during parts of the season.

The beach offers toilets, showers, a sauna, and changing rooms, along with several accessibility features. There’s also a nature-themed playground, a diving tower, and a floating dock.

Hammarskogs Badplats

Hammarskogsbadet is located by Dalbyviken in the Hammarskog outdoor recreation area. It’s a child-friendly and easily accessible swimming spot with large grassy areas, several jetties, and shallow waters – perfect for families. Fishing is also available here.

The beach features jetties, an accessible toilet, and a boardwalk that makes it easier for wheelchair users to reach the water (about 1 km from the parking area).

Lyssnaängsbadet

Lyssnaängsbadet is located by Lake Ekoln, just south of central Uppsala. It’s an easily accessible urban beach with a sandy shore, jetty, and large grassy areas for sunbathing and play.

You’ll find a kiosk, barbecue area (bring your own firewood), and toilets – one of which is accessible. A beach wheelchair is also available to borrow from the kiosk to make access to the water easier.

Storvadsbadet

Storvadsbadet is located by the River Fyris in Gamla Uppsala and is a popular spot with a sandy beach, large grassy areas, and jetties. Facilities include showers, a barbecue area (bring your own firewood), and toilets, one of which is accessible.

The beach has an accessible bathing ramp, though please note that the path down is steep and the ramp to the toilet lacks a handrail. Part of the beach is designated for dogs, and during summer, a food truck sometimes stops by.

Wikbadet

Wikbadet is located by Lårstaviken near Wik Castle and is an easily accessible swimming spot with a jetty and a large grassy area ideal for sunbathing and picnics. There’s an accessible bathing ramp as well as a dry toilet with a ramp (without a handrail).

Next to the beach is Sjöstugan, where a summer café is open during the season – perfect for a coffee or snack after your swim.

Bälingebadet

Bälingebadet is located north of Uppsala and features three heated pools – a 25-meter pool, a training pool, and a children’s pool for the youngest visitors.

In addition to swimming, you can enjoy mini golf and football billiards. The pool is open throughout the summer season, from June 1 to August 31, and is perfect for both families and swimmers looking to enjoy the sun and comfortably warm water.

Indoor swimming

During the colder months of the year, you can visit one of the city’s indoor pools, where both children and adults can swim, splash around, and have fun. Under one roof, you’ll find everything from water slides and fountains to warm jacuzzis, lap pools, and saunas. The facilities and amenities vary between locations.

Fyrishovs Äventyrsbad

Fyrishov Äventyrsbad is centrally located in Uppsala and offers both indoor and outdoor swimming. During summer, the enclosed outdoor area opens with heated pools, sun loungers, showers, and large grassy areas for sunbathing and play.

The facility includes jetties, changing rooms, and toilets, several of which are accessible.

Gottsundabadet

Gottsunda Swimming Hall is located in Gottsunda Centre in southern Uppsala and offers pools, a gym, and a sauna in a welcoming environment. Swimming lessons and activities for all ages are available, and the café serves light refreshments for those who need an energy boost.

The facility is equipped with a lift to assist swimmers with disabilities in and out of the pools. It’s easy to get here by bus, and for those arriving by car, free parking is available right outside. Gottsunda Swimming Hall is open year-round.

Good to know

  • Remember to always check the latest information about algal blooms on Uppsala Municipality’s website before visiting a swimming spot.
  • For those with dogs, designated dog beaches can be found at Fjällnora, Siggefora, and Storvad, where your four-legged friends can also cool off on warm summer days.
  • Some beaches have kiosks or summer cafés where you can buy ice cream, coffee, or light snacks.
  • Many spots also offer barbecue areas – remember to bring your own firewood or charcoal.
  • Please take your rubbish with you and help keep Uppsala’s beaches clean and enjoyable for everyone.
  • Parking is available at most swimming areas, but spaces fill up quickly on hot days – take public transport or cycle when possible.
