In the museum’s permanent exhibition, you can see unique original artefacts discovered during excavations at the Royal Mounds just beside the museum, and follow the story of the Yngling kings, pagan gods and Iron Age warriors. Travel through several centuries of Swedish history – from the small kingdoms of the 6th century and the religious transformation of the Viking Age to the construction of the cathedral in the 12th century.
In the interactive children’s exhibition, Frej’s Hall, young visitors can immerse themselves in history. Try on Viking clothing and helmets, explore interactive displays and read stories from the Viking Age.
Gamla Uppsala Museum also offers guided tours and family activities included in the admission ticket. Groups can book private tours and historical-themed team-building activities. On selected dates, the museum hosts popular events such as Viking Days and Vendel Days, featuring historical camps, markets, crafts and live demonstrations – an experience for visitors of all ages.
