Theatre that gets under your skin at Uppsala Stadsteater

When Den som berövar annan livet takes the stage on the Small Stage, it does so with an intensity you feel deep in your chest. Raw, direct, and true to life – a courtroom drama played out before the audience, where guilt, responsibility, and silence are carefully weighed.

And for those who would rather immerse themselves in symbolism than realism? Step straight into Macbeth’s world. Dark, fate-laden, and as relevant as ever. A production that smells of blood, lust for power, and Scottish mist – yet speaks unmistakably about us, here and now.

Some performances are more than entertainment. They have a purpose. Vi är Orlando is one of them. A collective memorial and an act of resistance at the same time. The story of the events at the Pulse nightclub in Florida has been transformed into a powerful stage work filled with light, grief, and togetherness.

And in the midst of it all – Pappa är död. A dark comedy where family ties, arguments, and misplaced inherited glasses are given space. It’s messy, funny, and sometimes almost too close. Just like life itself.

Musicals, magic, and grand stage experiences

Some evenings stay with you forever – and a few of them will undoubtedly unfold on stage in Uppsala this spring. Like when Jesus Christ Superstar takes the stage at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress in all its grandeur. For those who want more glitter than gospel, Joe Labero’s A Magic Night is the obvious choice. An evening where logic takes a break and anything seems possible. And for those who want to experience dance in its most classical form, Swan Lake with the Classical Ukrainian Etoile Ballet comes to UKK in February. With Tchaikovsky’s immortal music and floating white tulle skirts, audiences are treated to what may be ballet’s most iconic love story.

Unexpected and unique stage experiences

Some performances defy easy description – they simply have to be experienced. Sawdust Symphony is one of them. Three performers, a pile of tools, and a stack of planks come together to create a work of performing art that moves somewhere between performance, woodworking, and poetry. Strange? Yes. Fantastic? Absolutely.

We Can Be Heroes is a bombastic and emotionally charged concert experience at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress. Together with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Alexander Hanson, TV personality and concert producer Orvar Säfström and soprano Sabina Zweiacker lead the audience into the world of cinematic heroes. Here we encounter iconic characters such as Frodo from The Lord of the Rings, the heroes of The Avengers, Batman, Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road, Katniss from The Hunger Games, and Ripley from Aliens. The music ranges from Hans Zimmer’s powerful score for Gladiator to John Williams’ beloved themes from Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark. The result is a magnificent concert where symphonic power meets some of film history’s most unforgettable heroes – “heroic” doesn’t even begin to cover it.
