The Uplands Art Association presents its 2026 Artist Profile, featuring painter Roine Jansson. The exhibition at Uppsala Art Museum brings together works spanning several decades, portraying people in working environments ranging from mines and steelworks to agriculture and emergency services. Through expressive, large-scale paintings, Jansson captures the movement, power and atmosphere of working life.
Jansson himself worked as a miner and firefighter. Always carrying a pen and camera, he documented his working environment throughout his career. As part of a long-term artistic project, he has visited mines in Dannemora, Grängesberg and Kiruna, interviewing miners and drawing their portraits. The project has evolved into a travelling exhibition shown at each of these locations. At Uppsala Art Museum, visitors can experience paintings from these sites alongside other works from Jansson’s extensive artistic career.
Roine Jansson (born 1952) was born in Uppsala and lives and works in Österbybruk. He studied at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design between 1974 and 1976.
