Uppsala Art Museum presents a major exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist Eija-Liisa Ahtila.
In A Possible Image – of what is just becoming reality, Eija-Liisa Ahtila explores the relationship between humans and other forms of life within the ecological sphere, and how we can understand change. Through large-scale, immersive film installations, visitors are invited into worlds where time, perception, and the boundary between the human and the more-than-human are set in motion.
Born in 1959, Eija-Liisa Ahtila lives and works in Helsinki. She rose to international prominence in the 1990s with her psychologically charged works, which have been exhibited at institutions including MoMA in New York, Tate Modern in London, and the Venice Biennale on two occasions. Ahtila is a pioneer in her experimental approach to moving images and their presentation in space. Existential and everyday themes come together in a poetic narrative that at times incorporates elements of magical realism.
