Skokloster Castle

Skokloster slott sett från sjön

One of the world’s best-preserved Baroque castles awaits you on the Sko Peninsula by the shores of Lake Mälaren. Skokloster Castle was built during Sweden’s Age of Greatness, and much of what remains today has been preserved exactly as it was 350 years ago.

Sal på Skokloster slott

Stepping into the grand halls of Skokloster is like travelling 350 years back in time. You’ll experience the everyday life and splendour of the nobility, surrounded by furniture, art, weapons, textiles, and books – a unique collection of more than 50,000 objects. Through exhibitions and guided tours, you’ll discover the castle’s rich history and the people who lived here – from the Wrangel family to Brahe and von Essen. The castle also hosts temporary exhibitions that often weave together history and the present day, such as displays of costumes from the Netflix series Queen Charlotte – A Bridgerton Story and from film adaptations of Jane Austen’s classics.

For children eager to play and explore, the Paradiset playground offers a creative setting where they can play, grow, and discover life as it was in the 17th century.

In the castle café, housed in the old vaulted kitchen, you can enjoy freshly baked pastries, sandwiches, and homemade lunches. Sit down in the 17th-century kitchen or outside under the lime trees, with a beautiful view of Lake Mälaren. Don’t miss the museum shop, where you’ll find everything from historically inspired jewellery to porcelain and toys.

During the summer season, you can reach the castle by boat from Uppsala – a scenic trip along the River Fyris, across Lake Ekoln, and on to the castle grounds of the Sko Peninsula.
