Go skiing or sledding at Sunnerstabacken – in the Sunnerstaåsen outdoor recreation area, you’ll find two slopes perfect for winter adventures: Gropbacken for sledding and Åsidan for downhill skiing and snowboarding. During the season, both slopes are illuminated in the evenings, and equipment can be rented from Uppsala Slalomklubb and Aktivt Uteliv.

Åsidan

At Sunnerstabacken, you can enjoy both slalom skiing and snowboarding. During cold, snowy winters, up to three slopes are prepared on the Åsidan side, with difficulty levels ranging from green to blue and red. There’s also a small freestyle park. Lift passes can be purchased at the ski rental and warming hut located below slope two. The warming hut is open during the same hours as the slopes, and there are barbecue areas nearby.

Gropbacken

Sunnerstabacken is also one of Uppsala’s most popular spots for sledding enthusiasts. When the ground is covered in snow, you’ll find sledding hills in two directions within the hollow. Dust off your snow racer and bring along a thermos of hot chocolate. There are great barbecue areas at the foot of the hill.

Sunnerstastugan

If you start feeling hungry, you can visit the cozy café in Sunnerstastugan, serving both lunch and fika. Here you’ll find everything from crispy waffles to tasty soups and burgers.
