The Pump House

img-pumphusetstor

The Pump House, Uppsala’s first waterworks, was in operation from 1875 to 1968. Today, the building serves as a venue for educating various groups about sustainability and history, featuring a fun and interactive exhibition launched in 2017.

In 1875, Uppsala’s municipal waterworks—with its pump house and water supply network—was inaugurated. The Pump House was designed by architect Adrian Crispin Peterson. Of the original technical equipment, the water turbine, electric pumps, and pressure gauges remain.

The Pump House is open to the public with free admission during selected events. In 2018, it welcomed over 6,000 visitors during events and more than 2,000 participants for study visits and educational programs.
