The Museum of Medical History is located in the Ulleråker district and tells the story of health and illness, both of body and mind. There’s a wealth of discoveries to be made here. On the ground floor, you’ll find everything from traditional folk remedies to instruments and devices still in use today. Here, you’ll encounter small and great inventions, Nobel Prize winners, well-known Uppsala figures, and professions such as surgeons, midwives, doctors, and nurses.
In the museum’s pharmacy, you can see how raw ingredients were once prepared by hand into medicines like pills and ointments. The upstairs exhibitions focus on psychiatry, where objects and images tell the story of life, care, and work at Ulleråker Hospital — one of the country’s largest psychiatric institutions, with a history dating back to the Middle Ages.
Open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1–5 PM. Free admission. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures, and various activities.
Bus 4 stops right by the museum, at the Kronparksgården stop.
