Tower Music

tornmusiken i uppsala-pressbild-ej fri anv

The tradition of Tower Music in Uppsala has become a great success and a must-visit during the summer season. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear the Linné Quintet perform music from the towers of the magnificent cathedral!

For two weeks, from Tuesday to Saturday, the five brass players of the Linné Quintet present a concert that begins with music performed from the balcony between the cathedral towers. You can watch it from the square down below. The musicians then make their way down and continue the concert inside the cathedral, with a different musical programme each day and free admission.

The much-loved Tower Music tradition celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. In 1986, the County Music Director Stig Larsson introduced—or rather reintroduced—the tradition, which is based on a medieval custom where town musicians played from towers across the city. The Linné Quintet was also founded that same year, making this summer’s concerts a double anniversary celebration.
