Dreaming of China is a temporary exhibition at Museum Gustavianum exploring how an idealized image of China spread across Europe during the 18th century. Perceptions of a prosperous and harmonious empire in the East, together with extensive trade and cultural exchange, left a lasting imprint on European culture. The exhibition presents these historical visions through images and objects from the collections of Uppsala University and the Swedish Linnaeus Society, highlighting how ideas about China influenced art, science, and everyday life.
