Financial support for meetings and events

Meetings and events are important for the tourism industry’s short and long term growth – which in turn generates job opportunities for Uppsala. It is one of the main reasons why Uppsala is investing in supporting meetings and events financially.

Criteria

In 2014, Uppsala’s municipal council decided on a meeting & events strategy. The strategy states how financial support is to be granted. The event must:

  1. Contribute to Uppsala’s economic growth as well as provide potential for development
  2. Contribute to increasing the number of visitors and annual reservations
  3. Contribute to strengthening the Uppsala brand
  4. Strengthen the Uppsala brand through media exposure
  5. Be unique
  6. Be in the best interest for Uppsala’s long-term sustainability
  7. Leave lasting values in the city and contribute to destination development
  8. Involve the communal organisation in good time before the event

Process

The decision on events for 2019 has been made. The deadline for 2020 meetings and events has already passed.

The deadline for 2021 events (and future years) is 28 February 2020.

Evenemangslotsen’s [Events Guide] basic services are available all year round.

  1. The organiser should contact the Events Guide at Destination Uppsala
  2. Supported by the Events Guide, the organiser provides a decision basis for preparation with Destination Uppsala
  3. Preparation of the event for decision
  4. Decision made by a Decision Group
  5. The organiser is informed of the decision
  6. Any contract is signed with the organiser and Destination Uppsala as the legal entity.
