The audience can expect facade projections, a microscopic tardigrade in an AR installation at Vaksala Square, exhibitions, and a rich concert program of electronic music.

This autumn, the iconic black metal band Watain makes a comeback to their hometown Uppsala for their 25th anniversary. The classic concert hall opens its doors to one of the world’s biggest names in the genre, transforming into a Black Metal temple where dark arts, hypnotic music, blood offerings, pyromania, and other eerie sensations and macabre revelations await…

Speaking of national treasures,  The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is an international success story. During their nearly constant world tour, this orchestra delivers a delightful blend of dry British humor and an unbeatable, groovy musical experience.

Mysticism and Transformation

Gottsunda Dans & teater

“Jarkelidh” is a captivating stage experience that explores the ability to heal oneself, discover one’s own voice, shape one’s reality, and reconnect with the past. Through powerful movements, evocative soundscapes, dynamic lighting, and sculptural stage design, the performance takes us on a journey of transformation. It is a thought-provoking expedition where grief gradually heals and transforms.

The Circus is in Town

From Historical Classics to Dolly Parton

Uppsala stadsteater

The shows at Uppsala City Theater are performed in Swedish. If it’s not a problem for you, you’re in for an impressive lineup of theater premieres, ranging from drama to comedy, on one of the country’s most respected theater stages, this fall of 2023.

This year would have marked Swedish author Stig Dagerman’s hundredth birthday, and to honor his memory, Uppsala City Theater now offers a unique opportunity to experience one of his most famous works, “German Autumn” for the first time on a theater stage in Sweden. It marks the beginning of a season full of exciting performances. How about Marius von Mayenburg’s “The Ugly One” which, in the hands of director Viktor Tjerneld, becomes a twisted absurd comedy in the pursuit of success, sales potential, and authenticity?

Uppsala City Theater also presents Arthur Schnitzler’s masterpiece “Professor Bernhardi” making its Scandinavian premiere. Additionally, Swedish audiences have the chance to experience Dolly Parton’s acclaimed musical “9 to 5” live on stage for the first time. Join us on a journey into Lena Andersson’s portrayal of the Swedish welfare state in the performance “The Daughter.”

For everyone who is or has ever been a child, we follow the story of orphaned “Johanna,” who lives alone in a treehouse in the forest and knows everything needed to survive. But she has never learned to read and, therefore, cannot decipher the letter her mother left behind. A humorous, entertaining, and touching musical theater performance for the whole family.
