During the winter break, several of Uppsala’s museums have special tours and events that are fun for the whole family! To see the specific times for each activity, visit the museums’ websites.

Biotopia
Open from February 17th to February 25th, every day from 11 AM to 5 PM. Free admission. Learn more about birds and birdhouses – there’s a birdhouse workshop every day. You can also try the “Spovspåret” – a tricky crossword puzzle at the museum.

Botanical Garden – Tropical Greenhouse
Open from February 17th to February 25th, weekdays from 10 AM to 3 PM, weekends from 12 PM to 3 PM. Enjoy the lush greenery of the winter break! Shed your winter clothes, explore under the canopy of trees, and gaze out at the winter wonderland outside. You can also learn how to grow vertically – create a macramé hanging planter. This event requires advance purchase (60 SEK/participant) and has limited spots available.

Bror Hjorth’s House
Open Thursday to Sunday from 12 PM to 4 PM. Free admission. Winter break art school with Isak Hall’s paintings, reminiscent of magical sunsets and otherworldly places. Create paper pictures by mixing your own colors with plant pigments and paint with acrylic on canvas boards. There’s also a Winter Break Workshop (for a fee) on Sunday, suitable for ages 4 and up.

Evolution Museum
Open Tuesday to Sunday from 12 PM to 4 PM. Family tours in the zoological exhibition hall featuring dinosaur poop, moose poop, and whale poop! Learn all about why animals poop, what we can learn from poop, and why some animals eat their own poop.

Old Uppsala Museum
From February 19th to February 25th, every day from 12 PM to 4 PM. Learn more about runes – the Vikings’ letters. Learn to decipher the runes and take an interactive tour.

Museum of Medical History
Sunday, February 18th to Friday, February 23rd, from 1 PM to 4 PM. Free admission. The Teddy Bear Doctor will visit on Sunday. Come and meet him. Mandatory pre-registration. There will be taste and smell tests in the pharmacy, and children can go on a word hunt or search for sickly Smurfs hidden in the museum.

Pumphuset
From February 17th to February 25th, every day from 12 PM to 4 PM. Free admission. Welcome to the book exchange week, swap books with each other! We accept children’s books, non-fiction books, fiction, and biographies, but not encyclopedias. There will also be book-related crafts, play and learn about water, cycles, and sustainability in Uppsala’s first waterworks.

Uppsala Cathedral
The cathedral is open from 8 AM to 6 PM; accessibility is limited during services or concerts. Discover the exciting treasury or take a guided tour where children can learn more about the history of Sweden and the Middle Ages in the cathedral – from those who were there…

Uppsala Industrial Museum
Wednesday, February 21st, from 1 PM to 4 PM. Discover a forgotten Uppsala! Screening of old Uppsala films at 3 PM with free admission for children and youth.

Uppsala Art Museum
From February 20th to February 25th (Tuesday to Wednesday from 11 AM to 5 PM, Thursday from 11 AM to 8 PM, Friday to Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM). Free admission. Go on an art hunt in the museum – there are art keys to borrow for the whole family, adults and children alike. The art keys are details from artworks in the museum. Wear them around your neck and hunt for the works on our three floors. There are also fun activities in the workshop, including coloring kits, pens, and a large chalkboard.
