Wik Castle

Discover one of Sweden’s best-preserved medieval fortresses! Wik Castle was built in the late 1400s as a stronghold and was once one of the most fortified castles in the Mälaren region. With its scenic location by the water in Lårstaviken, just 20 kilometers southwest of Uppsala, it makes for a perfect day trip from the city.

The area surrounding Wik Castle features a beautiful natural landscape with a beach, an apple orchard, and hiking trails. For over 800 years, Wik has been a popular destination, offering plenty of exciting history to explore. The castle has been under siege by Gustav Vasa, who even declared war on England from here. Some also claim that visitors—depending on their luck—might encounter one of the lingering castle ghosts.

In 1923, Uppsala County Council (now Region Uppsala) acquired the castle. Today, it operates as a hotel and conference center, complete with a restaurant and café. A folk high school is also located within the castle grounds.

Castle Café & Restaurant

Wik Castle is home to an organic-certified restaurant, where vegetables, honey, and apple cider are sourced directly from the estate. Be sure to book a table before your visit! During summer, a garden bar opens in the park between the castle and the beach. Visitors can also get ice cream, drinks, and snacks from a small summer café near the swimming area.

Always check Wik Castle’s website for current restaurant and café opening hours.
