When the sun is shining, it’s time to make your way to one of the many swimming areas in the city. Uppsala and its surroundings are teeming with little coves and lakes where you can swim, play and get some sun. Beaches and grassy spaces intertwine with large rocks and jetties that jut out into the water.
Find your favourite swimming area
The entire county is a summer paradise for both the young and the young-at-heart, with diving towers, floating docks and paddle boats for fun on the water. Nearby you will often find large grassy areas for activities like volleyball and the Swedish game brännboll (similar to baseball), playgrounds, food stands and cafeterias. At some swimming areas, you can also rent a rowing boat, canoe or kayak.
Fyrishov in central Uppsala is an enclosed summer swimming centre with temperature-controlled pools, outdoor showers and lounge chairs.
Dog lovers can visit the dog beaches in Fjällnora, Siggefora and Storvadsbadet, where your four-legged friend can also take a dip.
Visit Uppsala’s indoor pools
When the days are cooler, you can visit the city’s indoor pools, where the young and young-at-heart can swim, play, splash and have a good time. Under one single roof you’ll find everything from water slides and fountains to hot jacuzzis, exercise pools and saunas. What’s available varies from facility to facility.
