Slotts­biografen

Slottsbiografen in Uppsala, built in 1914, is one of the best preserved cinemas in Sweden. The cinema is known as Ingmar Bergman’s childhood cinema. It was here that he went to see the matinées with his grandmother and it was here that he first climbed into the projection room and became enamored with the projectors that created the magic on the big screen.

Up until 1991, the venue operated as a commercial cinema. In 1994, it was declared an historic landmark and extensive restoration work was initiated. The cinema then held its grand reopening in 1996. Now, it is available for cultural events, courses and conferences.
